Costa Rica - 2007 Just returned from Tamarindo, Costa Rica on Saturday. Spent 7 nights and 8 days down there with two of my oldest and best friends, Bill & Mickey. Here are some photos from the trip. Hope you enjoy them!
Here are Mickey and I at the airport on Friday, August 17th. Bill had just arrived and I told him there had been an earthquake! (ie: my glasses askew) Here we are after arriving at our "villa" the next morning. We left at 11:50PM and arrived at 6:30 AM Saturday. Notice the dirt road. That's the norm in most of Coats Rica other than the main highways.
Here is a photo from our porch. There were 9 villas in this development.
It was a beautiful setting.
We were in villa #3.
The entire place was done in local woods. Primarily teak wood. This photo is looking from the kitchen to the living room.
We had a private pool that we used a lot.
Plenty of chairs and chaise lounges. All teak.
Nice gas BBQ and dining table. There were stacked washer & dryer in the cabinet with lots of clean beach towels to use.
This is the downstairs guest bath. Notice the unique sink.
The stairway was a little steep for our old bones.
My room was at the top of the stairs on the 2nd floor. Bill's was to the left and Mickey's was up another flight on the 3rd floor. All had balconies and full bathrooms with showers. We didn't get any shots of the other rooms.
I had a nice bathroom with a huge glass shower. Always had hot water but the lighting left a little to be desired.
The bed area was real nice with a sitting area. Again a whole lot of teak. Multiple fans throughout the villa including the bathrooms and on the front and rear porches. I had 4 fans in my bedroom alone. I think we counted 15 or 16 fans. The entire place was air conditioned too.
Sitting area and doors to balcony.
Here is the stairs up to Mickey's room.
Bill and I went fishing one day. We caught Dorado (Mahi Mahi) and had it cooked for dinner at a friend's restaurant that evening.
Here's our captain Carlos.
We were out about 10 miles. Fishing wasn't very good but we had a good time anyway.
That night we shared our catch with a couple of guys we met from Cleveland, Ohio. A good time was had by all! This is the bar at La Caracola. A friend of mine at the beach is a partner and he hooked me up with the operating partner, Greg, who was a gracious host and spent a lot of time showing us around the Tamarindo area.
On Sunday, Greg took us snorkeling at this beach. We had to cross a river on the beach to get here, which was a little scary, but it was worth it. Just a beautiful beach and day. The was Playa Conchal I believe. We visited Playa Flamingo later that day.
We drove further north of town, on our own, a couple of days later to Playa Coco. It was raining but still a beautiful setting. We had lunch at a local restaurant on the beach.
This is a terrible picture of Bill but you can see the muddy water and sand from all the rain that day. We hit the rainy season and Hurricane Craig was also sending us some as well.
Here we are later in the week another beach south of Tamarindo. This beautiful little spot was right on a great surf beach that forget the name of as I write this. Notice the unique chairs we are sitting on.
This is the only shot of Greg that we got for some reason. He is a great guy and is living in paradise.
Here's a better shot of those chairs.
Here's a shot looking south. There is black sand further down the beach.
Looking north.
From the parking lot.
Here's our rental car. If not for the 4 wheel drive we would not have been able to get to this beach. (see below)
We drove about 10 miles of road like this to get to the beach.
Just another pot bunker full of water to navigate!
And another.
On Thursday we did the "Canopy Tour" north of Tamarindo.
Here's Mickey on one of 10 runs we took through the canopy.
These cables were strong! They held my fat butt. The longest run was almost 600 yards long. It was a real blast however I was a little skeptical before we launched from our first perch.
Here's Bill on a run.
We saw Iguana lizards up to 6' long and howler monkeys too. Green parrots and lots of other bird life. You have to do this once in you life.
Mickey on a long run.
Me too.
And Billy bringing up the rear and a little out of control!
This the the beach directly across the street from the villa looking north.
Looking south.
Here I am on the path coming back from Playa Langosta.
And walking back to the villa. Had to leave in the morning.
It was pouring just before our plane landed. They almost shut down the airport due to the intensity but it let up just in time.
That's it for this trip. Can't wait to get back down to that part of the world as soon as I can. KK
