Foo-foo fishing in Ontario, Canada - 2006

I went fishing with a close friend August 30th through September 6th. Actually, Tony Patti is the guy that got me into fresh water fishing several years ago. Check out this link. http://quartzsitervshow.com/canada_july_05.htm That was not Foo-foo fishing but I loved it. We had been flying into that area for several years. We decided we were getting too old for all that and decided to try the other end of the spectrum this year. here are some photos of our trip to Tetu Island Lodge in the SW part of  Ontario, Canada.

Here's Tony schlepping the bags from the rental car when we arrived at Tetu Lake. They came and picked us up by boat and then it was about a 20 minute run to the Tetu Island.

We hit some beautiful weather (other than day 1!) and a beautiful spot. Notice the low water level though. They said the fishing was better when the water was up. I found that hard to believe as you'll see below.

Really nice accommodations! This is not our cabin but you get the idea.

I've been fishing up in Ontario several times and the mosquitoes are everywhere. Except here! They had these propane traps all around the resort and I swear I did not get bit once the whole week I was there nor did I really see any mosquitoes. Amazing!

Here is our guide Darrell. He'd just carried all of our tackle and other stuff down to the boat while Tony and I had a full breakfast. You're not allowed to carry anything at Tutu Lodge

Here is my first Walleye of any size.We got it on the troll. And here is another good one on the light tackle!

Of course there are larger fish in this lake! Like these two. (Notice the tackle I'm using on the left. That's about 6-8 lb test and there was only about 50-75 yards of line on it. They use the spinning gear for fishing for the smaller Walleye we ate for lunch every day. I used it for the big guys too! The guide thought I was crazy.)

They practice CPR at Tutu Resort. (see Darrell's hat) That's Catch - Photo - Release!

Here's Tony with a nice Walleye

.

And a nice Small Mouth Bass.

I think this was a big White Fish. Darrell caught this while we were fishing for lunch. Only one we saw the whole trip.

Every day Darrell would run us up on a rock and clean some smaller Walleye we would catch each morning and then keep in the live well. Here he is throwing back some extras we had.

He deep fried them is Kellogg's Corn Flakes and seasoned corn meal, dipped in egg batter and we did beer battered one day too!

Deep fried potatoes and baked beans in the can on the fire was the norm.

Darrell would drag out folding chairs for us and then serve us with real silverware and cloth napkins. I'm talking Foo-foo fishing here folks!

Here is some of the tackle we used. Thai's a lure about 8-10" long backed with 80lb. line. This was serious fishing!

I'm talking serious! This was a 44" Northern Pike. Largest fish we caught.

Here's another fat 35" Northern I caught during the trip.

We were catching some Small Mouth Bass in the morning while procuring our smaller Walleye for lunch. I told Darrell I wanted to actually try to catch some bass one day so he, begrudgingly, as he preferred to go after the monster Northern, took me and Tony to a spot where I proceeded to catch about 30 Small Mouth Bass like this one. No problem!

Here is another nice Northern caught by Mr. Patti. The fishing was fantastic. If we had just wanted to catch hundreds of smaller Pike we could have but we chose to chase the larger ones and still had what would be classified as one of the best trips in my life!

Here's Darrell releasing another giant Northern Pike. Was real satisfying to watch these big brutes swim off to fight another day.

We saw Black Bear, Bald Eagles, huge Golden Eagles and many deer while fishing too.

It was hard to wipe the grin off our faces during this trip. It was that much fun!

Darrell wouldn't even let me get my own ice when we got back from 8 or 9 hours on the water! He thinks he's the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz.

We had steak and lobster two nights we were there and they fed us all the social drinks you wanted and it was all included! The food, service and accommodations were absolutely fantastic!

And the fishing was even better!

K.K.
